Well, yes it is, but the kind of carbs you eat is what really matters. The stuff to avoid is the refined variety - white bread (or bread masquerading as brown) white pasta, white rice etc as it has been refined to within an inch of it's life. This means that all of the nutrients; minerals, vitamins & fibre have been removed with the outer part of the grain. This is usually done to extend the shelf life of the final product - pasta, rice, bread...but has no health benefit at all!
The best carbohydrates to eat are wholegrains, like brown rice, wholegrain bread, wholewheat pasta. Variety is also important ensuring the boradest possible range of nutrients.; e
xperiment with quinoa (particularly high in protein) millet, buckwheat, rye and spelt. Some are gluten free, for those who struggle to digest gluten, but all of them, if eaten as a wholegrain, are much more nutritious than refined grains.
The other benefit of eating wholegrains rather than refined grains is that they contain fibre, which helps the body to excrete fat and also slows the release of sugar into the blood. This 'sugar' is present in any carbohydrate food, in the form of glucose chains. If you consume wholegrains, it takes the digestive system much longer to break down the grain and so, you are less likely to get energy dips!
